DV All Stars Update!

The 11 year old stars from Deer Valley captured a district title last night defeating Goodyear by a score of 7-6! This one will go down as a nail biter. Deer Valley struck early when Max Peters hit a 2 run bomb over the left center field wall to give DV the early 2-0 lead. Goodyear responded though with with a few of their own as they took a 4-3 lead..... In the top of 4 DV struck again and took a 5-4 lead into the top of the 6th. With Tommy Lowe on the hill the DV team retired the first 2 hitters easily. From there it looked like it would be a very non climactic win but the baseball gods had other ideas. With 2 out the DV pitching staff went to sleep and proceeded to walk 6 in a row to give back the lead and they now trailed 6-5. Max Peters was brought in and finally got the ground out to end the inning. Trailing 6-5 Dv was down to their final at bat. A lead off single followed by a fielders choice and the v team was down to their final 2 outs with just a runner on 1st. Joey Damone stepped to the plate and hit a laser to right center, Tommy was waived around and when the catcher dropped the ball the game was tied. Joey scampered to third on the play at suddenly Dv had the winning run on third with just one out. After Max Peters was walked intentionally (for the 3rd time in the game) Good year decided to pitch to Jace Montgomery and he made them pay when he singled sharply to left for the walk off win! Carey Brooks started on the hill for DV. Joey Damone was an incredible 11-14 in the tourney! All the boys played their guts out and a huge congratulations goes out to the entire team! The 11 year old stars are managed by Zeke Bishop and coached by Don Plouffe and Frank Damone! Next up the 11 year old stars will play in the North Sectional tournament at Reach 11 Sports Complex on Cave Creek and Deer Valley rd. Game times will be posted shortly.
The 10 year old team played in the final as well but unfortunately did not fair so well as the bats went silent and the defense let them down. In the end the DV stars lost to Rio Vista 8-2. The boys had a great run and have nothing to hang their heads about .
The Juniors team is playing well. In their first game in bracket play they defeated a very tough opponent in Peoria Mountain View 4-1. In the Semifinal they beat up on Cactus Wren by a score of 13-3! The Final is Friday night at Peoria Sports Complex, game time is 7PM. Come out and root for the Juniors as they try to win a district title!
